Fences are a decorative piece that helps make the home have great curb appeal. When putting up a fence, often one does not realize that there will be maintenance. If one has wood fencing, the upkeep will be of great importance.
A vinyl fence can
be cleaned very easily. For this type of material, simply use some soap, water and a good sponge will do the trick. A water hose is able to get a great deal of the dirt and grass off of them as well. It is best to do this in the late spring after the rains are over and the mud is not as ample. Vinyl is one of the most maintenance free fence options on the market; it looks great and is easy to take care of.
Wood fencing can be economical and can be great for privacy. Larger privacy style fences provide excellent barriers for pets and children. Many people paint their fence and live to regret it. A painted fence will often require repainting once every couple of years. It can look really drab rather quickly if one does not keep on top of the painting. White seems to be the colour of choice for fencing options. Most people like the look of a white picket fence around their yard, but it would be much easier just to stain. While paint can be washed, it will easily flake and peel and fade in colour. Staining or weather proofing a fence is a great option for making sure that fence not only is functional but beautiful as well.
Unless people like wood stain of various shades of browns to be used in their wooden fencing, this can also look very tidy and will need regular repainting to keep it looking good. The amount of shades in wood stain has increased in recent years to include some greens and blues for those people who like a contrast in their garden.
Steel and aluminium fences are the most popular options. They are inexpensive and come in all varieties of sizes. These styles of fences are also very easy to clean. A simple water hose and some soap will do wonders. Most people do not even know that they need to maintain an aluminium fence, but if the debris is not kept at a minimum, over time between water and dirt the fence will begin to rust and will look unsightly.
It is perfectly acceptable no matter what type of fence to use a little bleach in the solution. Cedar or any kind of wood fence can handle a small amount of bleach. This will also help the wood from turning grey and looking discoloured. It is possible to purchase a wood cleaning product form the hardware store to make sure that no harm will come to the fence; however, a good bottle of dish soap will do the same trick for less money.
There are pluses and minuses to maintaining each kind of fences. Vinyl will require a little more elbow grease to get those tough stains out, but wood will require the most maintenance over time. By doing this cleaning process at least once a year, if not more it will be easy to have a wonderful fence which adds tons of charm to the old homestead. Anything worth having is worth taking care of, especially fences that both mark your boundaries and protect your home.
